My friend, Jen, has a blog over at Tripod. She related a story of visiting Lake Michigan yesterday that made me nostalgic.
Probably ten years ago, my family and I visited the Holland State Park on Lake Michigan in February. The shoreline was a miniature mountain range of ice, overhanging the lake were waves had carved cold canyons and formations. The white of the lake's edge extended inland from a recent snow that had left a sparse dusting of snow.
The day was overcast with dark clouds approaching from beyond the horizon. Lake Michigan was a mirror for the turbulent gray's of the sky. Wind blew in, wipping at the waves and creating small whitecaps. It was an eerily beautiful monochromatic painting.
